We are continuing to advance methane mitigation at our Isle of Wight anaerobic digestion (AD) facility, where the site’s methane capture system is undergoing targeted upgrades.
The system incorporates Bluemethane’s ‘degas’ methane capture technology, designed to extract dissolved methane from digestate streams before it can escape into the atmosphere. These upgrades represent an important step in improving operational performance and strengthening the site’s role as a demonstrator for next-generation methane abatement.
Towards full closed-loop operation
Following a series of optimisation works, the Bluemethane system is progressing toward maximum methane extraction and full closed-loop operation.
Once complete, the system will capture methane that would otherwise be released during the downstream processing and handling of digestate. The recovered methane can then be redirected back into the plant’s energy system, improving overall efficiency while significantly reducing fugitive emissions.
This approach not only strengthens environmental performance but also supports the growing need for high-integrity methane reduction across the AD sector.
A scalable solution for the AD industry
Methane released from post-digestion streams remains one of the more complex challenges within anaerobic digestion infrastructure. Technologies that can reliably capture dissolved methane provide an opportunity to address emissions at source, rather than relying solely on downstream air treatment systems.
The Isle of Wight installation demonstrates how innovative capture systems can be integrated into existing AD facilities, helping operators improve emissions performance while maintaining efficient plant operations.

The work at the Isle of Wight forms part of ReGenEarth’s wider focus on developing practical methane abatement solutions and circular infrastructure across its portfolio of sites.
As the Bluemethane system reaches full optimisation, the project will help demonstrate how methane capture technologies can be deployed at scale, supporting both decarbonisation goals and the long-term sustainability of anaerobic digestion.
